PopisThis course introduces students to the core concepts, theories, and research in abnormal psychology. Students examine historical and cultural definitions of normality and abnormality, gain an understanding of the classification and diagnosis of mental disorders (focusing on DSM-5), and explore various causal influences on psychopathology (genetic, biological, interpersonal, social, environmental). Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, integrating evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies, and applying knowledge to real-life contexts. Case studies, tests, and interactive activities help students link theory to professional and everyday settings.
Výsledky učeníPo absolvování tohoto kurzu budou studenti schopni:
– Critically evaluate definitions of normality and abnormality, recognizing historical and cultural influences.
– Demonstrate understanding of key etiological factors in mental disorders, including genetic, biological, learning, cognitive, interpersonal, and environmental contributors.
– Identify the most common mental disorders in adulthood and childhood/adolescence, along with evidence-based therapies and treatments.
– Emphasize the importance of prevention, early intervention, and ethical considerations when addressing mental health issues.
– Apply diagnostic criteria (DSM-5) and assessment methods in basic contexts, reflecting a critical, evidence-based approach to psychopathology.
– Relate knowledge of abnormal psychology to everyday life, professional contexts, and ongoing societal discussions of mental health.
